For the 13th time in 2023, the most popular products in fire protection were awarded the "Product of the Year" award by FeuerTrutz Network. In the "System-based fire protection" category, WAGNER Group GmbH was able to convince the jury with its fire protection solution for the storage of lithium-ion batteries.

Reiner Milski, Managing Director of WAGNER Deutschland GmbH, received the award on June 21 at the FeuerTrutz trade fair in Nuremberg.

fire protection solution

WAGNER implemented the award-winning, unique fire protection solution for an automated high-bay warehouse of KETTLER Alu-Rad GmbH, in which up to 50,000 e-bikes are packed ready for shipping, and stored with installed batteries.

High-bay warehouses are fundamentally threatened by various fire risks. Lithium-ion batteries from stored e-bikes significantly increase the risk of fire because they pose the risk of spontaneous combustion. The release of oxygen caused by fire can lead to thermal runaway - a high risk when storing e-bikes with lithium-ion batteries.

Based on a risk assessment of the protected area, the individual protection goals - such as maintaining delivery capability - were defined with KETTLER Alu-Rad GmbH. With the help of extensive fire tests, the experts at WAGNER developed the ideal solution.

VdS-tested fire protection solutions

Under defined conditions, this solution protects against the consequences of a thermal runaway, prevents the spread of a fire, and thus protects against an interruption in operations and the associated consequential damage.

This solution is unique on the market and one of the first VdS-tested fire protection solutions for the storage of lithium-ion batteries.

Product of the Year 2023

When presenting the award, Reiner Milski was extremely pleased, "The storage of these energy storage units is challenging from a fire protection point of view, and there is no standard solution for this."

"Thanks to the excellent cooperation of all those involved and with the help of our extensive fire tests, we have found an ideal and groundbreaking solution for KETTLER that gives our customers security and protects their values. I am particularly pleased for those involved in the project that the relevance of this solution has also been recognized in the industry and honored by the expert jury of FeuerTrutz magazine with the award for Product of the Year 2023 in plant-based fire protection."
