E-ONE, a subsidiary of REV Group and a globally renowned manufacturer of fire apparatus equipment and parts, has announced that funding for E-ONE’s patented ECOLOGIC test system is now available from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to airport operators.
ECOLOGIC ARFF system
ECOLOGIC is an ARFF foam-testing system that does not use foam to conduct the test. The input-based testing system provides fire departments the means to test the accuracy of their foam system without the expense or environmental impact of using foam to perform an output-based test.
As part of the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program, airports may now be reimbursed for their purchase of the ECOLOGIC test system for use in testing ARFF vehicles, according to a FAA Program Guidance Letter issued June 10, 2019.
Aircraft Fire Fighting Vehicles (ARFF)
“If an airport sponsor decides to modify an existing ARFF vehicle to allow input-based testing, AIP costs will be limited to reimbursement of in-line proportioner testing equipment and associated direct installation costs needed as part of required ARFF truck modifications,” the FAA Program Guidance letter states.
Earlier in the year, on January 17, 2019, the FAA announced the ECOLOGIC test system was accepted for immediate use to satisfy the Part 139 testing requirement while minimizing the environmental impact.
ARFF vehicles maintenance and service
“The FAA believes that testing ARFF vehicles’ AFFF systems is essential to safety,” the FAA CertAlert reads. “We are working to give ARFF departments the flexibility to ensure they maintain their ARFF vehicles’ readiness, while also addressing environmental concerns.”
