EMEREC is a data storage and transfer system developed for fire protection vehicles to communicate data of the accident vehicle to the nearest emergency centre

Fire protection vehicles can use EMEREC to communicate location data to the nearest emergency center

With EMEREC, Rosenbauer has developed an information system, which combines comprehensive as well as up-to-date information from various data resources.

In the event of an accident, eCall rings the uniform European emergency number 112 and communicates the location data of the accident vehicle and further important information to the nearest emergency call point. Once eCall is used on a full coverage basis, it is estimated that the reduction in reaction times at the emergency call centers will probably save 2,500 lives annually and reduce the effects of serious accidents in more than 15 per cent of cases. From 2011 onwards, all new vehicles are to be fitted with the eCall emergency system.

With EMEREC, Rosenbauer has developed a future-oriented information system, which combines comprehensive and extremely up-to-date information from various data sources and thus provides the emergency services with on-the-spot support. In years to come, information concerning the types of vehicle involved in an accident together with concrete rescue information (e.g. batteries, airbags, etc.) will be sent directly to the EMEREC data center via an interface with the emergency call point that receives the eCall messages.

To date, apart from the EU states, the automobile clubs, the ACEA (European Automobile Manufacturers' Association) and industrial companies have all backed this scheme by signing a memorandum of understanding. Rosenbauer supports this forward-looking concept and has now also joined this initiative.
