Alex McAllister is the new Senior Account Manager of Cosalt
Alex McAllister has several years experience working in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) clothing

Cosalt's Workwear business has strengthened its sales team with the appointment of Alex McAllister as Senior Account Manager.

The move will help the company expand its presence in the highly competitive Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) market, particularly the fire and police sectors.

Well known in the industry for his knowledge and technical expertise, Alex joins Cosalt from one of the company's main competitors.  He spent five years at Lion Apparel as Product Development Manager and Technical Sales Manager where he took the lead in developing innovative products for Strathclyde FRS.

Alex has worked in PPE clothing ever since leaving school in the 1980s. He began his career at a small family owned business in Glasgow, learning his trade on the cutting room floor.  Within 10 years he was promoted to the position of General Manager and played a key role in building up sales to the fire market.

In a successful career spanning 25 years Alex went on to work for a number of major companies including garment manufacturer CCM (when it was part of the Sketchley empire) and German company TAG. For a brief period in 2001 he even worked for Cosalt before joining Scotgreat, a manufacturer of uniforms and PPE clothing for the emergency services sector.

The appointment adds significant weight to Cosalt's sales team as the company gears up for further growth following a number of major contract wins in 2010. Cosalt has just appointed another big-hitter, Simon Marshall, to lead its assault on the hi-vis and workwear sectors. Last year Cosalt secured new business with both the North West and South East & Eastern Fire and Rescue Services (FRS) consortiums.

Said Alex: "Cosalt is a well structured company with a fantastic product range and managed service offering.  I have been extremely impressed by the depth of talent here. The product development team in particular runs like a well-oiled machine and it is a breath of fresh air to be working with people of this calibre.  In many ways it feels like I'm coming home.  Cosalt really understands PPE design and how to make up a garment.

"In my new role I will have an important input in product development. To me this has always been an integral part of sales and I always like to get involved. As a sales person you are directly in front of the customer listening to what they need and what they are concerned about.  It makes sense to work with the designers to ensure these issues are addressed in full."

Cosalt is one of the UK's leading providers of protective clothing and equipment to the emergency services, military, transport and construction industries.  For many years, it has been one of the main suppliers of structural fire fighting and rescue kit to the majority of UK fire brigades.
