At approximately 05:30, E811 was alerted to respond to the 5900 block of Riggs Road as the working fire engine on a house fire in Company 44’s area. Units on scene reported a two-story single-family dwelling with fire showing from both levels. Crews removed one trapped victim from the home. At approximately 1800 hours, E811 was alerted to respond to the 6800 block of New Hampshire Ave as the working fire engine on a structure fire in Company 44’s area. C811B marked up to respond as well. Units on scene reported fire in a restaurant kitchen within a shopping center. The fire was quickly brought under control by PE844 and TK855’s crews. E811 assisted units on scene by checking the exposures for extension before returning to service.
E811 was dispatched to a report of a house on fire in the 4800 blk of Olympia Ave in Beltsville. E811 responded with a crew of five in addition to C811 and C811B. A box alarm was dispatched for multiple reports of a house on fire in the 9300 block of 51st Avenue in the Hollywood neighborhood of Branchville first due. Engine 811 responded with 6 firefighters and arrived on the scene to find fire showing from the rear of the first floor and through the roof of a one-story wood frame house with a basement. On March 26th, E811B was dispatched for a working fire in company 33’s area as an additional unit to the second alarm. Upon arrival, command directed the E811B crew to the delta exposure to check for extension into neighboring apartments. E811B pulled the ceiling, opened up walls, and confirmed no spread of the fire. E811B operated for approximately 1 hour before returning to service.
On March 21st, 2021 E811B and A811 were dispatched for a multi-vehicle collision on BW parkway at Beaver Dam Rd. Upon arrival, both units initiated patient care and checked all disabled vehicles. All occupants self extricated with non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to local trauma centers.
At approximately 0400 on Sunday morning, E811 and C811A were alerted to respond to a house fire in Beltsville. First units on scene advised they had fire through the roof and on side Charlie. E811 operated as the third due engine on the house fire in Company 31’s area. E811 crew advanced a 2” attack line through side A and extinguished fire in the attic. E811 operated for approximately an hour before returning to service.
On February 29, 2020, units from Company 11 where alerted to respond to a house fire on the 2200 Blk of Queens Chapel Road in Hyattsville (Co. 1’s area). Chief 811A and Engine 111 had just cleared a separate incident on Queens Chapel Road when they were dispatched to the reported house fire just 2 blocks away. E111 was dispatched as RIT to an apartment fire on the 11300 block of Evans Trail in Calverton. Units had heavy fire on the 2nd and 3rd floors as well as through the roof, and the box went to 2 alarms. Initial reports advised of people possibly trapped, however, searches were negative throughout. Co. 11 operated for approximately 3 hours before returning to service.
New member Malik Alexander was awarded by PGFD Fire Chief Benjamin Barksdale for actions where Malik used skills he learned as a PGFD High School Cadet to successfully remove a critically injured person from a burning vehicle. Attending were current Cadets, family & C.H. Flowers High School Principal Brown. At the 97th Annual Convention hosted at Accokeek Volunteer Fire Department, three dedicated Branchville members were among those obtaining prestigious awards. E113 and A117 were dispatched for a first due building fire on the 8700 block of Baltimore Ave. Upon arrival, the crew reported it was a car fire in the parking lot of the structure. E113 stretched a line to the vehicle and quickly extinguished the fire before it could extend to a cabinet of propane tanks just a few feet away.
E811B responded to a vehicle fire in the interior compartment of a car. The fire was extinguished quickly and the engine returned to service. Later in the night, both Engine and Ambulance responded to a vehicle collision on I95 SB. Neither incident caused any injuries.
E811B ran as the first due engine on a stove broiler fire in Company 14’s area. Crews arrived on the scene to light smoke evident from a terrace-level apartment. A stove fire was quickly extinguished with no extension. Later in the night, E811B and A811 responded to a vehicle collision that was upgraded to a vehicle into a building en-route. One patient was transported to an area trauma center.
The Branchville night crew participated in some evening Fire and EMS training to stay up to date on their knowledge and skills.
At 1207 hours, a call was dispatched for a vehicle fire on I95 NB. Engine 111 was in the area and requested to be added to the call. Engine 111 was the first unit to arrive on the scene and quickly extinguished the fire. No people were injured.
Every year, members of Branchville attend the Maryland State Firemen’s Association Conference to participate in a variety of events, continuing education seminars, and meetings to discuss the Volunteer Fire Services. The members participated in a live structure burn simulation and an all-day extrication drill hosted by the OC FOOLS, in addition to other in-classroom education sessions and meetings. E811 responded as the 2nd due engine to a box alarm with reported entrapment at an apartment complex in Langley Park, MD. Upon arrival, E811 pulled a 400′ backup line and checked for extension from an exterior fire into the structure. E811 returned to service.
On March 12th, 2019, E113 was alerted third due for the report of a building on fire at the corner of Baltimore Ave and Prince George’s Ave in Beltsville. First arriving companies reported heavy fire from a commercial auto shop. Units knocked the fire down from the exterior before moving the interior to mop up. E113 operated for approximately 2 hours before returning to service.
Branchville members held a company training day at the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute in College Park. Training gives a chance to practice essential skills for the safety of the firefighters, EMS, and the public they serve.
