CIC will be at COP26 on 11 November to present on ‘Carbon Zero: the professional institutions’ climate action plan’.
The presentation is in support of the Construction Leadership Council’s Construct Zero session which will take place in the Green Zone as part of the COP26 Cities, Regions, and Built Environment Day.
reduce carbon emissions
The built environment and construction sector accounts for 38% of global carbon emissions and it has been estimated that collectively they build the equivalent of a city the size of Paris every week.
At COP26, the government and industry have a crucial opportunity to discuss and agree on tangible commitments to reduce carbon emissions and invest in the future.
climate action plan
COP26 will be focused on the climate action plan which coordinates the efforts of the professional institutes
CIC’s contribution to COP26 will be focused on the climate action plan which coordinates the efforts of the professional institutes in the built environments to meet the UK government’s 2050 net zero emissions targets.
Stephen Hodder MBE, Chair of the CIC Climate Change Committee responsible for the plan, a former RIBA president, will be presenting on behalf of CIC.
retrofit, materials, and professional services
The Construction Leadership Council session brings together Construct Zero partners including CIC to show how the industry is advancing the importance of retrofit, materials, and professional services in delivering Net Zero.
It will also see Business Champions identifying some of the challenges they face and give opportunities to share best practices. There will be a chance for the audience to put questions to the speakers as part of a panel debate.
Net Zero
The event will provide a great opportunity for young people to engage and work with industry pioneers.
The role of young professionals, working in partnership with industry pioneers, is fundamental to delivering on Net Zero and the Construction Leadership Council has been facilitating the voice of young professionals at the heart of the session by allocating 50% of their tickets to them.
