Chubb installed its PC-based ControlMaster 600 fire alarm system with a graphical user interface |
Chubb Fire & Security Limited has upgraded the fire alarm system at GDF SUEZ’s Saltend cogeneration power station in Hull, protecting hundreds of employees, as well as the site’s critical equipment and buildings. Chubb is a part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp.
GDF SUEZ is a global energy company operating in the power, natural gas and energy services sectors. In the U.K., the company has a strong presence in electricity generation and its Saltend gas-fired power station provides 1,200 MW of generation, powering up to 1.2 million homes.
Chubb installed its PC-based ControlMaster 600 fire alarm system with a graphical user interface that incorporates Google Maps™ and site layouts to ensure the entire site is protected. It also replaced 20 deluge panels in critical areas across the site, to enhance reporting capabilities, decrease response times and improve false-alarm management.
“Chubb was able to provide the best lead time, system, service offering and cost efficiencies,” said Simon Gott, GDF SUEZ site services engineer at Saltend. “The competence its employees demonstrated was the most important reason for awarding the contract, as this gave us the confidence that they would deliver a system that would meet the long-term needs of the site that we required.
“The installation went very smoothly. In addition to being on time and to budget, the engineers organised implementation so that it worked in and around our operational requirements, crucially ensuring there was no disruption to the power station’s productivity,” Gott said.
