State-of-the-art shopping and leisure complex K-Village stands safe due to Chubb's newly installed fire and security system

K-Village is now safe from the threats of fire and vandalism due to the fire and security system installed by Chubb, a subsidiary of UTC Fire & Security

Shoppers and workers at the new K-Village in Kendal are being protected from the threats of fire and vandalism thanks to a fire and security system from Chubb. Chubb is a subsidiary of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp.

The M&E consultants selected Chubb based on its competitive tender. The requirements included installation of a fully networked fire alarm, Public Address/Voice Alarm (PAVA) system, disabled refuge, CCTV and intruder alarm and access control system at the shopping centre in Cumbria. A spokesman for the M&E contractor notes: “Fire and security are of paramount importance to any site but particularly where the public are concerned.

“Chubb has been involved with us from the very beginning, building on many years of good work together. We are very satisfied with the level of professionalism throughout this project.”

The £100m K Village, The Lakes Outlet, opened at the end of July following completion of the redevelopment programme by Kendal Riverside Ltd. The state-of-the-art shopping and leisure complex will employ some 300 full-time and part-time workers and aims to attract over 1.5 million visitors annually.

Jane Garland, Marketing Communications Manager at Chubb Fire says that shopping centres present a complex set of challenges in safety and security: “Not only is protecting the public and staff from the threat of fire in a busy shopping centre a high priority,” she said, “but also the shops and all their goods from vandalism and theft. Chubb has worked with the M&E consultants to provide a complete fire and security solution as it has done at a number of other shopping centres in the UK.
