Choice Fire & Security Solutions has completed wireless (radio) fire and security systems installations for a new 60-cover cafe located in a refurbishment of one of the oldest, Grade 1 listed, buildings in West Malling, Kent. This is the latest installation for the property portfolio of Choice’s client Market Town Developments.

The 65 High Street site of the new Hungry Guest Café has been dated at least as far back as the 1400s and contains a number of significant features of architectural interest, including a roof supported by a central pillar and a noted first floor 1500s stone fireplace.

Associated physical disfigurement

As such, the refurbishment required significant sensitivity to the age of the property and building regulations, as well as to the aesthetic requirements of the refurbishment’s interior designers.

The elimination of wiring and any associated physical disfigurement or damage to the fabric of the building was vital to the selection and design of the Choice-provided fire and intruder detection and alarm systems, combined with an IP CCTV surveillance system. Choice installed a wireless EMS fire detection and alarm system comprising: control panel, 10 smoke and two (kitchen) heat detectors, eight sounders, and four call-points. Wireless Honeywell intruder detection and alarm combines a control panel with door contacts and movement detectors.

Remote security system

Both systems are Emizon-enabled for remote monitoring and this also allows remote security system diagnostics. Additionally, the IP high definition CCTV surveillance system is also enabled for remote control and observation.

Kirstie Peachey, Managing Director Market Town Foods, said: “We have worked with Choice for many years now in our outlets in Kent and West Sussex so we were happy for them to oversee our security and fire system installation, at our new venue in West Malling. The initial advice on the project, the equipment, installation and after sales care, commissioning and training were all excellent and we now have a safe and secure business for our staff and patrons alike. Managing the systems is easy and the response to queries is always professional and timely. It really does give peace of mind for all the operators, like me, who want a reliable and robust system.”
