The work of Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) has again been recognized in the Queen’s New Year Honours list. Chief Fire Officer Trevor Ferguson has been awarded the Queen’s Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service (QFSM) for services to the fire and rescue sector.

This award follows a recent successful inspection by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Service, where Her Majesty’s Inspector Matt Parr concluded, “Our first inspection of Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service revealed that it is performing to a high standard. We graded the service as ‘good’ in each of our three main inspection categories. The people of Berkshire can be confident that they are being well-served.

Trevor stated, “It is a privilege to accept the Queen’s Fire Service Medal in recognition of the diligent work of the team at Royal Berkshire Fire Authority (RBFA) and Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service.”

“Since I joined the Service in 2014, the team has been working tirelessly to ensure that we provide the high-quality, trusted public service the residents of Berkshire deserve. In accepting the QFSM, I do so on behalf of all the amazing public servants at RBFA and RBFRS.”

Work Experience

Before joining RBFRS, Trevor spent the first 24 years of his career in the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, serving the people of Northern Ireland. Trevor was educated at Listress Primary School, St. Columb’s College, and the University of Ulster.

Trevor would like to thank his family for the care and support which they have given him throughout his career. He would also like to thank the many previous colleagues who taught him so much about public service and the fire and rescue service.

Trevor plans to retire in the summer, after almost 32 years in the fire and rescue service and will leave knowing the people of Royal Berkshire will continue to be well-served by everyone at RBFA and RBFRS.
