Checkmate Fire will kick off this year’s exhibiting at the Fire Safety Event at the Birmingham NEC on 10-12 April 2018. The event, an independent event dedicated to supporting the UK’s fire and safety industry, features a powerful combination of education, networking and business support designed to help organizations maintain the very highest standards of fire safety. Checkmate will be featuring both their range of fire stopping services & products and their LPCB certified fire resistant glazing, Alufire.

The free seminar program, carefully curated and delivered in partnership with the Fire & Security Matters magazine, covers critical topics in fire safety management and features a mix of case study presentations, white paper presentations, thought-provoking debates and legal updates all presented by government officials, lawyers, and industry professionals, across two theatres.

Protecting Buildings with Sprinklers

In addition, visitors are invited to attend breakfast briefings on all three days where they will enjoy refreshments while networking and enjoying sessions on cladding fires (10 April), fire protection in tall buildings (11 April) and Protecting Buildings with Sprinklers (12 April).

By attending one will be able to see and experience the very latest products and services on the market today. With over 30 specific fire safety companies exhibiting at the event, one will be able to discuss their organization’s fire safety needs 1-on-1 and receive practical hands-on information and advice from major fire safety brands in the industry. Visitors will also be able to experience the latest products and services plus receive hands-on advice from a wide range of major fire safety brands exhibiting at the event.

Safely evacuating premises

Co-located with The Health & Safety Event and The Facilities Event, The Fire Safety Event is a must-attend for anyone who has a focus on improving life safety, business continuity and business protection for their organization. The keynote theatre will boast three sessions on day one, beginning with Advanced’s Neil Parkin delivering an address on how to eliminate false alarms.

This will be followed by a mock trial on the Fire Safety Order, which will be led by Warren Spencer who has prosecuted more than 120 cases under the Order. Dr Bob Docherty will also deliver a session titled passport to fire safety, which will focus on ensuring the workplace is compliant with fire safety laws. The Fire and Evacuation Theatre will host a session on the devastating effects of fires on trains, buses and at sea and how to take steps to mitigate against the risks and a panel debate on how to safely evacuate premises.

C-Tec will also deliver a session on how to ensure the visual alarm devices are legally compliant

Highlights from day two include a Corporate Manslaughter mock trial, which will be delivered on behalf of Turner and Townsend by Gerard Forlin QC from Cornerstone Barristers. Other sessions include guidance on how to evacuate safely during terrorist attacks and how to identify a competent contractor to carry out fire safety work.

Kingspan’s Mark Harris will address the key topic of fire safety of insulated panels and facade systems, which has become a mainstream focus in recent months. There will also be a panel debate on fire safety in hospitals, which will explain how to keep patients and premises safe in the event of a fire and key steps to preventing fires.

The final day will include keynote sessions on passive fire protection – complying with the law, lessons learned from Grenfell Tower fire and how to protect vulnerable people during fires. C-Tec will also deliver a session on how to ensure the visual alarm devices are legally compliant. There will be one final panel debate on reliable protection and safe evacuation of premises.
