Just before schools broke up for the summer holidays, Safety Zone made its welcomed return after being put on hold following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Safety Zones provide an excellent opportunity to engage with young people before they transition"

A couple of weeks later a second Safety Zone was then held in Cambridge, hosting pupils from Orchard Park Primary, Kings Hedges Primary School, The Grove Primary School, Chesterton Primary School, and St. Laurence Catholic Primary School.

Station Commander - Paul Clarke, who is the Lead for Children and Young People in Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service commented, “Working with young people and providing them with key safety information at a young age is very important to us and our partners."

He adds, "Safety Zones provide an excellent opportunity to engage with young people before they transition from primary to secondary learning and we're so pleased to see the successful return of this valuable provision.”

Feedback

Feedback from the schools involved was very positive, including 'really informative, with age-appropriate information provided' and 'wide range of activities/workshops meant the children learned about a wide range of things and lots of practical tips.'

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service hopes to continue further Safety Zone in the new school year.
