Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) is excited to announce that it will be recruiting for wholetime firefighters to join fire stations across the county at the end of the month.

People interested in becoming a wholetime firefighters will need to register online at the website and book a place on one of the upcoming information events. Registration opens at 10 am on January 29, 2018, and will stay open until midnight on March 8, 2018 – the day before the last information event, or until all places have been booked.

Eight information events

Candidates will be required to attend one of the eight information events in order to gain access to the online application process. Details of the information events are on the Service’s website. Chief Fire Officer Chris Strickland said: "It’s a fantastic opportunity to join our team in helping to keep our communities safe.”

There is a lot more to being a firefighter than people think. There is a much greater emphasis on engaging with communities and working proactively with partners to prevent emergencies. All of our firefighters bring something different to the team and this emphasizes why we want to receive applications from a wide range of people from different backgrounds and experiences.”

Great career opportunities

There are also opportunities to become trainers or get involved in projects"

Chris added: “There are great career opportunities within the fire service. For those wanting to progress to management roles, we offer a number of different ways to support and development staff. Or you may want to specialize in a particular area such as community safety or fire protection.”

"There are also opportunities to become trainers or get involved in projects. Or we support people to just be the best firefighter they can be. Whatever you decide, it’s an incredibly rewarding career where no two days are the same. As well as attending an information event, interested candidates will have to undertake a thorough assessment process, including physical assessments and fitness and written tests.”

Ethnic minority groups

Candidates must permanently reside within 10 miles of the boundary of the county of Cambridgeshire, must be 18 on or before May 6, 2018, have five or more GCSEs A* - C (or equivalent), including Maths and English Language, be able to swim, hold the full UK driving license without restrictions and not be subject to any unspent criminal convictions.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service values diversity and actively encourages applications from underrepresented groups in our communities, especially black and ethnic minority groups and women.
