As the global effect of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to evolve, the CAL FIRE - Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) is closing most of their public counters statewide, effective immediately.

During this unprecedented time, no State Fire Training applications (i.e. certification, instructor registration) or Fire Engineering and Investigation applications (i.e. licenses application and renewals) will be accepted in person.

Fire and Life Safety construction plan review services will continue with modifications. All applications, licenses, plan review, or correspondence shall be submitted to the OSFM, utilizing the program specific processes listed below.

Fire and Life Safety services

Fire and Life Safety public counter in Sacramento will remain open for plan review documents drop-off only

The Fire and Life Safety public counter in Sacramento will remain open for plan review plans/documents drop-off only. Their Tuesday over-the-counter services will continue. Submitters may wait in the lobby while the review is conducted, as only staff will be allowed in the office areas.

Electronic plan review services may also be submitted through GovMotus Fire to their plan review division office. All plan review submittals shall be either shipped to the plan review division for on-paper reviews and/or submitted electronically via GOVmotus.

Delayed services owing to COVID-19

The CAL FIRE - Office of the State Fire Marshal staff continues to further the mission of CAL FIRE and the OSFM. At this time, people are requested to understand that longer wait times for services may occur during this time.

CAL FIRE - OSGM recognizes this is a challenging time and remains deeply committed to the safety of the public and their employees. The CAL FIRE - OSFM office will continue to monitor developments, adjust where necessary, and inform when they are open to the public again.
