Lithium-Ion (or Li-Ion batteries) are crucial for providing portable power for modern-day electronic devices including server racks, laptops, power tools, medical equipment, and electric vehicles.

On the plus side, lithium-ion batteries provide energy-efficient storage, but they are inherently flammable and if used incorrectly are at risk of exploding, or short-circuiting. With this in mind, Honeywell has launched the Li-ion Tamer® Rack Monitoring System, a plug-and-play device that provides an effective early warning detection at the critical stage of battery failure.

Fire detection and suppression solution

Li-ion Tamer® can detect a single cell failure and works between the off-gas and smoke stages before thermal runaway or a fire has had time to take hold.

Li-ion Tamer® detects off-gas from lithium-ion batteries and is ideal to be incorporated

Li-ion Tamer® detects off-gas from lithium-ion batteries and is ideal to be incorporated as part of overall fire detection and fire suppression solution. Check out the fire suppression pages for further information on the Bryland Fire Protection solutions bespoke for business needs.

Li-Ion Tamer® configuration

  • The system typically consists of sensors installed at the battery racks to monitor off-gas events
  • Reference sensors are installed to monitor the ambient environment and air inlets to cancel common-mode signals
  • Controllers for aggregating sensor signals

key features of Li-ion Tamer®

  • Easy to install (plug and play)
  • Single-cell failure detection
  • Prevents thermal runaway with appropriate mitigation actions
  • Compatible with all lithium-ion battery form
  • Auto diagnostic capabilities
  • Reduction or removal of false-positive signals

Applications from the installation of Li-ion Tamer®

  • Any facilities where lithium-ion batteries are stored
  • Datacentres
  • Wind Farms
  • Telecoms
