Bosch Security Systems now specialise certified voice alarm, paging and background music audio products
EN54 meets a growing market trend towards integrated fire voice alarm systems

Bosch Security Systems has become the first major manufacturer of PA/VA solutions to have all of its individual systems, components and technologies tested and approved to the new EN54 Standard.

The announcement means that not only have the Bosch Plena and Bosch Praesideo voice alarm systems been granted EN54 certification by accredited notified bodies, but so too has its peripheral equipment such as loudspeakers & PSU’s.

Originally introduced as a European standard for fire alarm systems, EN54 has now been extended to cover Voice Evacuation to meet a growing trend in the market towards integrated Fire Alarm & Voice Alarm systems. Bosch is now certified in all three principal equipment areas: EN54-16 for central Voice Alarm Control & Indicating Equipment (VACIE); EN54-24 for Loudspeakers; and EN54-4 for power supply equipment (ie Battery Chargers).

Bosch Security Systems has been a leading supporter of international standards from the outset, says Paul Wong, UK Managing Director: “Since 2009 and the accreditation of the first EN 54-16 compliant Voice Alarm system we have been working with multiple accredited bodies to ensure compliance throughout the entire range,” he says.

“It means that anyone specifying a PA/VA solution in the future knows that in working with Bosch, they not only have technology that is best-in-class, but also a product portfolio that meets the highest standards required by European Law to provide optimum protection for the public and personnel.”

In contrast to other manufacturers, who offer only loudspeakers for one or two defined applications, Bosch can provide EN 54-24 certified products for the full range of audio applications: Voice Alarm (VA), every day speech (paging) and background music (BGM) as well as foreground music and professional audio. The range includes indoor and outdoor loudspeakers as well as flush-mounted and surface-mounted loudspeakers for walls and ceilings.

The newly approved technology was showcased at International Firex 2011, Birmingham NEC .
