On Feb 1, 2021, a new mass vaccination center opened its doors in Bedford Heights, Bedford. This is one of six centers opening over the next month. Over 200 members of the public received their vaccination on the first day.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Station Commander, Robert Hulatt has been working with local partners, including the NHS Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Clinical Commission Groups to ensure the smooth set up and running of the centers.

New vaccination centers set up

Station Commander Robert Hulatt’s role is to assist in the set up of each of the centers

It is hoped that the vaccination centers will welcome around 500 members of the public each day, in order to receive their vaccinations over the next 10 months.

Station Commander Robert Hulatt’s role is to assist in the set up of each of the centers and pass the day-to-day running over to additional BFRS members of staff. The next center is currently being set up in Shefford and the other four centers will soon follow.

Partnership with NHS

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Area Commander, Ian McLaren said “Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service are working with partners to set up another five centers over the coming weeks. We are fully committed as a Service to working with the NHS to ensure that these centers are set up efficiently and effectively, utilizing our experience and expertise in managing dynamic situations.

He adds, “The priority is to be able to vaccinate as many people as we can, as quickly as we can in order to keep the communities of Bedfordshire safe.
