Sprinklers were activated as a result of a fire caused by a portable heater in close proximity to a blanket where the resident was asleep and under the influence of alcohol.

Sprinkler system also raised the alarm to warn the resident (flow switch activating the alarm system).

LD2 Alarms

The room of origin was the living room where no detection was present – LD2 system installed within flats (LD2 – Alarms in all circulation spaces that form part of escape routes and rooms or areas that present a high fire risk).

Installed Sprinklers & No Structural Repairs

Retrofitted sprinklers fitted within all areas of the flat(s) (and common areas of the block).

In extinguishing the fire, the damage was mitigated to the room of origin, with minimal smoke damage to the room but this did not require the resident to be displaced.

The property will be cleaned and made available for re-occupation without the need for structural repairs.

Sprinkler Activation

NCH believes that the sprinkler activation saved the life of the resident who would otherwise have been in the smoke-filled environment for much longer before being alerted.
