"The BAFE SP205 scheme provides a route in evidencing competency to deliver the vital service of Fire Risk Assessment," said Chris Auger, Director of Schemes.

He adds, "We encourage registered organizations, specifically SP205 registered organizations, to provide your input to help greater understanding and steer decision making."

Information provided by Office

As users will be aware, there is considerable work underway to strengthen the building and fire safety regulatory systems, not least through the changes being brought about by the Fire Safety Act (FSA) and the Building Safety Bill (BSB).

These changes will have a significant impact on the Fire Risk Assessor sector and with that in mind, BAFE is keen to gain a better understanding of capacity and capability within the sector.

sector-led work

The requirements in the FSA to include external wall assessments in fire risk assessments

It is also keen to support sector-led work on professionalization within the Fire Risk Assessor sector and answers to these questions will very much help to support our work in this regard.

It is particularly keen to better understand the impact that two specific forthcoming changes may have on the sector. These are the requirements in the FSA to include external wall assessments in fire risk assessments and the proposed requirement in the BSB for responsible persons to ensure that anyone they appoint to complete a fire risk assessment must be competent.

issue of PII and impacts

In addition, it is keen to explore the issue of PII and any impacts related to that.

BAFE therefore invites members of the professional bodies working in the Fire Risk Assessor sector and/or those who are involved with fire risk external wall assessments (EWA) to complete the survey.

Survey questions

The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete, depending on how much users want to tell

The survey will ask questions about both the company users work for and in individual professional capacity, and will use the findings of the survey to inform the Government’s policy development work.

BAFE may also share anonymous aggregated results with professional bodies who are supporting conducting this survey and guiding the sector-led work mentioned above. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete, depending on how much users want to tell, and will remain open until the close of play on Friday 8th April 2022.

Participation in survey

The survey is being conducted by the Home Office in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and the UK GDPR. Participation in this survey is completely voluntary, answers will be kept confidential and no individual or organization will be identified in any reporting.

BAFE has also completed a Privacy Information Note (PIN) in relation to data are collecting in the survey which tells users about the way they will handle the data users (have) given.
