Ken Bullock is a well-known and respected individual within the fire safety industry and has over 35 years of experience in which time he has been involved in bringing new technologies to the industry. Ken’s fire industry journey began with wireless fire detection and alarm technology, back when he noted that BS 5839-1 only had one paragraph.

Working with the FIA and BRE he was heavily involved in the growth of the technology from a standards point of view, including being a pioneer in the writing of EN54 part 25 where he became the UK principal expert on the CEN working group. As wireless technology became part of an everyday fire system his role with industry stakeholders meant him getting involved with all the automatic fire and detection standards.

"I will be looking to strengthen relationships with the stakeholders in BAFE’s current work in updating and developing the BAFE Schemes to support relevant standards and developing new technologies. I have always been a supporter of the benefits on UKAS Accredited Third-Party Certification to demonstrate competency, and I am delighted to align my core values with that of BAFE.”

Justin Maltby-Smith, Group Managing Director of BAFE, added: “We are delighted that Ken has joined us, and his significant industry experience and technical knowledge will undoubtedly strengthen the BAFE team. There is a growing demand for objective evidence of competency that BAFE is extremely aware of, and Ken will lead this important work with the ongoing development of existing and new BAFE Schemes."

"With the fire safety responsibilities under Section 156 of the Building Safety Act 2022 coming into effect (as of 01/10/2023), it is yet another reminder to the Responsible Person that they need to ensure they are meeting their fire safety obligations using appropriate fire safety organizations where required.
