On September 10th, E811B was transferred to Hyattsville Co. 1 to provide coverage to the area while other units responded to a car fire in a parking garage. While E811B was in Hyattsville, a flash flood occurred, trapping over 40 vehicles in the flooded roadways along the East-West Highway corridor.

The Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department had over 100 pending calls for service, involving flooding conditions and water rescues. E811B conducted multiple water rescues and non-emergency calls for flooding conditions. VC811A was the first chief to respond and establish the initial Riverdale Command. VC811A operated for six hours, initially conducting water rescues of trapped citizens and later organizing the response to over 30 calls throughout the 4th and 6th battalion.

In response to the increased call volume, members from Company 11 placed a second engine, a BLS ambulance, and the utility in service to assist with the overwhelming call volume. Our volunteers operated E811B, E811, PA811B, A811C, U811, and the Chief’s car, responding to 29 calls for service in approximately 9 hours.
