With 20 years of building emergency vehicles, 1st Attack Engineering of Waterloo has added water tankers to its lineup. The company built its first water tanker for the LaGrange Fire Department. LaGrange Fire Chief Dave Elick contacted Jeffrey Cook, president of 1st Attack Engineering, to build the tanker, the company said.

LaGrange chose to use a 1999 International chassis for its tanker. The fire department took delivery of the tanker on February 22. The truck is equipped with a 2,400-gallon APR Custom Copolymer Fabricated NFPA T-Tank, a news release said.

Driver-Side compartment

It features a customer-supplied portable pump mounted in a driver-side compartment, a Newton KWIK Dump and a 2,000-gallon portable folding drop tank mounted on the passenger side in a fold-down carrier.

1st Attack Engineering began as a result of Cook working as a volunteer firefighter for 15 years

The truck has one roll-up door storage compartment on each side, a Whelen LED emergency-light package and custom LED scene lighting. Headquarters for 1st Attack Engineering Inc are at 2730 C.R. 47, east of Waterloo. According to its website, 1st Attack Engineering began as a result of Cook working as a volunteer firefighter for 15 years.

Design emergency vehicles

He set out to build and design emergency vehicles for the fire and emergency services, using his long history of working with all types of off-road vehicles and his experience in fighting field and brush fires. In 1995, Cook built his first fire truck conversion as a brush truck. It remains still in use.

The company said its design and development of off-road firefighting equipment has progressed to include many different off-road rescue units, from its Mini Emergency Response Vehicle to the lightweight, two-trucks-in-one design of its Co-poly Off-Road Fire Rescue unit.
