An ASIS International certification is an endorsement to the world that one has mastered the knowledge and skills needed to be a successful security management professional—including an understanding of the latest security trends and risks and how to mitigate them.

Like all accredited professional certification programs, ASIS requires individuals to keep current—by earning 60 continuing professional education (CPE) credits every three years, or the certification will expire.

Security-Related associations

There are several ways to earn CPEs, flexible to suit one’s unique schedule and needs:

  • Attend security-related education programs, including online courses and webinars like those offered by ASIS
  • Perform volunteer security work in the community
  • Publish an article in a security publication
  • Teach a security-related course
  • Join ASIS International and other security-related associations
  • Serve in a volunteer role with ASIS International and other security-related associations

Seasoned security professionals

ASIS will soon launch the Associate Protection Professional (APP) early career certification

The number of CPEs one can earn varies for each activity. Consult the ASIS Recertification Guide or reach out to the Certification team if one has any questions about CPE eligibility.

Certification shows your commitment to understanding key security concepts and applying them,” says Pamela Cichon, CPP, program manager, U.S. Postal Inspection Service. “There is tremendous credibility in the fact that you must stay sharp with continued education to maintain the certification.”

ASIS certifications are not just for seasoned security professionals. ASIS will soon launch the Associate Protection Professional (APP) early career certification, designed for those with 1-4 years’ experience in security management.
