Pierce, received a new order from the Arlington County Fire Department for six Pierce®Arrow XT™ pumpers

Pierce Manufacturing, an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK) company, received a new significant order from the Arlington County Fire Department in Arlington, Va., for six Pierce®Arrow XT™ pumpers.

The order represents the first year of an annually renewable, seven-year contract. Over the length of the contract, the department will replace pumpers, rear mount aerials, a tower ladder and heavy rescues. The Arlington County Fire Department is a new customer for Pierce Manufacturing, and the first six units are scheduled for delivery beginning in December 2009.

The Arlington County Fire Department finalized the contract after conducting an extensive analysis of various manufacturers and dealer organizations. The department's best value procurement process evaluates a wide range of criteria and assigned values to each. The criteria included: vehicle specifications; warranty coverage; pricing; operational training; service support and buy back value. Pierce received the highest total value score of all potential bidders.

"Arlington County Fire Department utilized a comprehensive best value procurement process to determine the award winning bidder," said Doug Insley, a Battalion chief with the Arlington County Virginia Fire Department.

The six Arrow XT pumpers are customized to meet the unique needs of the department. Each fire truck features a 500-hp engine, 5-speed automatic transmission, 10-inch raised roof cab, and a side-roll protection package for enhanced safety. The vehicles also offer a 19-inch front bumper extension, a 1,500-gpm pump, Class B foam system, 750-gallon poly water tank and a 58-inch high EMS cabinet located inside the cab.

"This order from a high profile department near our nation's capital, demonstrates strong confidence in Pierce fire apparatus. It is also very gratifying that we received the top grade on Arlington's best value procurement process," said Wilson Jones, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Fire & Emergency. "The contract is also a testament to the tremendous service and support that will be provided long after the sale."

The Arrow XT pumper is ideally suited to meet Arlington County's urban needs. The short body length, maneuverable chassis and robust firefighting capabilities are very important factors as well. Moreover, Arlington valued the Arrow XT's traditional look to match existing apparatus and that it's built with simplicity, reliability and durability as top priorities.

Located just outside of Washington D.C., the Arlington County Fire Department provides comprehensive fire, emergency medical, and allied public safety services in a 26-square mile urban community. The Arlington County Fire Department operates from 10 Fire stations and is home to the Pentagon and many other government agencies. The department has 319 employees and holds a Class 2 Rating from the Insurance Service Office (ISO), the highest rating given to a Virginia fire department, and one of only three such ratings awarded in the state.
