The original fire alarm system did not meet the coverage required by current BS5839 requirements and due to the age of the system and the asbestos on site, it could not be extended. A quick install was required to minimize the disruption of the working Health Center.

The Health Center is also a Grade I listed building. Built in 1935-38 and partly restored in the mid-1990s, it was designed by Berthold Lubetkin and the Tecton architecture practice. Services housed at the center include the Michael Palin Centre for Stammering Children and Clerkenwell Medical Practice

Reasoning For Wireless Use

Wireless was an obvious choice due to the nature of the buildings and the site. The main public building had low-risk asbestos in certain areas and cabling in these areas was not an option.

The building is also Grade 1 listed which meant there had to be minimal damage to the structure and décor of the building which a wired system would do. The decision to use wireless also made the installation incredibly quiet and dust-free negating any disturbance to the public and workers at the health center.
