In 2017, ARA Security was awarded a contract from the New South Wales (NSW) Road and Maritime Services (RMS) to upgrade the infrastructure protection through the installation of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) systems on twelve remote bridges in NSW.

The twelve bridges covered a wide area from Pheasants Nest southwest of Sydney to Ballina in the Northern Rivers region of NSW.

The twelve sites were:

  1. Douglas Park Bridge
  2. Gladesville Bridge
  3. Harwood Bridge
  4. Hawkesbury & Peats Ferry Bridge
  5. Hexham & Hunter Bridges
  6. Mascot Tunnel
  7. Menangle Bridge
  8. Moolgun Creek Bridge
  9. Mooney Mooney Bridge
  10. Pheasants Nest Bridge
  11. Spit Bridge
  12. Wardell Bridge

Detailed design of the CCTV systems

The extended contract included the service of all the CCTV systems installed

Based upon the exceptional performance of ARA Security in delivering this upgrade project, Transport NSW (formerly RMS) sought to extend the initial contract to add the upgrade of the CCTV on the iconic Sydney Harbor Bridge and the ANZAC Bridge.

The extended contract included the service of all the CCTV systems installed. Transport NSW sought and received approval from the Minister of Transport to enter direct negotiations with ARA Security for this contract extension and expansion of the works.

Cutting-edge CCTV system

With respect to all the bridges protected, ARA Security worked closely with the RMS and later Transport NSW on the detailed design of the CCTV systems on all the bridges. A cutting-edge CCTV system was agreed along with the method of installation.

Each bridge being protected has unique installation issues. Ultimately, all the CCTV systems were installed safely with regard to serviceability and long-term maintenance.

Latest technology and connectivity

There were several delays in the works and particularly on the Sydney Harbor Bridge, due to the COVID pandemic. There is still a minor amount of work to complete but this can only be done on planned road closures. These will take place in the next few months.

Based upon the high quality of the work performed by ARA Security technicians and the designs supplied by ARA Security engineers, ARA Security is continuing to work with Transport NSW on a planned life cycle replacement program. This will keep the bridges protected with the latest technology and connectivity in the future.
