At the University Hospital in Düsseldorf, a high-pressure water mist (HPWM) system has been actively contributing to safety for years.

When it came to expanding the fire-fighting system, those responsible trusted in the experts from AQUASYS.

Optimization of fire protection areas

One aim of this optimization was to decouple the false ceiling areas from the room protection below. In case of a fire in the false ceiling, the system is activated in the false ceiling area and in the room below.

However, if there is a fire in the room, in the future the false ceiling area can be activated individually, depending on whether the concealed area above the fire area is also at risk.

This action will further increase the availability of these important areas in the hospital. This is made possible by the integration of additional section valves in combination with intelligent electrical activation and the adaptation of the nozzle network in the affected areas.

Back to normal operation after 3 weeks

With MARANG as a partner, it was possible to implement the HPWM system in only 3 weeks

The small piping dimensions of a high-pressure water mist system, a very flexible and reliable piping system, and the close coordination with the hospital in conjunction with the many years of experience of the partner MARANG Brandschutz & Technologie GmbH made it possible to implement the HPWM system in only 3 weeks.

Thus, the restrictions in the operation of the areas affected by the reconstruction could be kept very low and the intensive care unit, which had been taken out of operation, could quickly return to normal operation.

Advantages of HPWM for hospital applications

Smoke and heat development are the main hazards for patients and staff in case of fire. The containment of a fire and the suppression of smoke, as well as the prevention of contamination and water damage, are the main requirements for a firefighting system.

It is precisely here that the advantages of HPWM technology, such as low water consumption, outstanding cooling effect due to the finest water mist, and even smoke suppression, can be fully utilized.
