Apollo Fire Detectors Ltd is pleased to announce their pledge of charitable support to Havant Fire Station! Being the nearest fire station to the company’s Havant Head Office, the crew at Havant Station already do a lot to help the local community. They visit nurseries, schools and even colleges. With funding from Apollo, they’ll be able to do even more.
Fire safety education course
One activity that they have agreed to fund for 2020 is ‘A Better Me’, a six-week course for ten local students aged 11 to 12 years old, who are experiencing poor mental health. These students are taught how to cook, the importance of exercise, other essential life skills and are even taken kayaking around the local waterfront. It’s not all fun and games though the fire crew put them through their paces, using the same drills they use every day.

At Apollo, as well as funding A Better Me, the company will be hosting one of the workshops during the course. This is an opportunity to teach the children about important STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) topics, and how this could lead to a career at Apollo.
Simon Morford, Havant Crew Manager, said, “The entire crew at Havant Fire Station is so grateful for Apollo’s sponsorship of our A Better Me course. Working together will mean that we can support these young people and empower them. They’ll gain confidence, learn valuable life skills, and have amazing life experiences. In the process, also encouraging nurturing of positivity and self-respect among youngsters.”
Raising awareness on importance of fire safety
Apollo will also participate in fundraising activities, volunteering and other initiatives aimed at benefitting and supporting the crew at the station. One of the upcoming volunteering events is helping to create a wellbeing garden at the station for the crew to use, to help them relax and have some time out in the fresh air.
