AlarmSense is a range of conventional two-wire detection and alarm devices that connect to the same pair of supply wires. This design saves time on installation and, alongside the ability to priority switch sounders, makes AlarmSense an incredibly flexible system for small applications that do not require specialist protection.

How will AlarmSense benefit?

AlarmSense’s two-wire design means less time spent pulling cables in comparison to a standard conventional system.

Customized switching solution

Priority Switching, also known as LAM, was designed to reduce the amount of full-site evacuations

Priority Switching, also known as Localised Alarm Management (LAM), was designed to reduce the amount of full-site evacuations. Occupants are given two minutes to clear the smoke or ventilate the room.

That way if they burn some toast, the entire building doesn’t go into alarm and prompt a full evacuation. General and Local alarm settings help customize the system and adapt it to specific room types and prevent high amounts of false activations.

How does Priority Switching (LAM) work?

The AlarmSense sounder and sounder visual indicator base may be switched between Priority and Non-priority using a DIL Switch to provide either a general (full alarm) or local alarm.

This feature is best showcased in a small block of apartments/flats, a small hotel, or in an HMO environment (House in Multiple Occupancy). This tends to be a property rented out by at least three people who are not from the same family but share facilities like the bathroom and kitchen. Sometimes referred to as a ‘House Share’, commonly used by students / young professionals.

This is because the communal areas often are unoccupied at certain times, and therefore if a fire occurs it is more than likely a real fire.

  • Communal Living Areas

  • Kitchen

Applications of AlarmSense

With the flexibility to change the alarm criteria, the AlarmSense range can be used in a wider set of applications. A conventional system, used in the example above, would end up causing too many false alarm evacuations, which is a nuisance to the occupants and building owners.

The fire system would alert all residents whether it was a piece of burning toast or a real fire, not being able to discern the difference between them.

A conventional system may be more appropriate for smaller, less complex applications. A corner shop with only a handful of detectors would be a good example.

Is AlarmSense cost-effective?

Not only are the potential applications wider but the cost of installation is much cheaper due to the sounders and manual call points being fitted on the same two-wire zone, reducing cabling by up to 50%. On a conventional system, the installer would have to run cabling for the detectors, the manual call points, and the alarm devices. All separately. 

This both takes time and money. Having the ability to fit most of the devices in the same zone reduces cabling costs and time-on-site, and with AlarmSense the installation cost can be reduced by up to 25%! A clear benefit on a time-sensitive project.
