Most types of professionally installed security systems can be monitored, and they can all bring different benefits. The idea of the monitoring on the alarm is that when it is triggered, whether an intruder or fire alarm system, it immediately notifies a monitoring center. This means there is always someone watching over users' home, whether users are home or not.

Whether users have an existing monitored alarm or would like to upgrade their current system to monitored, in this article, APE discusses what having a monitored alarm is all about.

What Is Monitoring, In Terms Of An Alarm?

If a second detector goes off this is known as a ‘confirmed’ alarm, and the monitoring center may decide to send the police

Alarm monitoring is a detailed and quick communication from your home security system to a center that monitor the alarm. If users already have an intruder alarm installed on their premises users will be aware that there are detectors in every room. If one of the detectors goes off, the monitoring center will be alerted and will either contact you or a keyholder.

If a second detector goes off this is known as a ‘confirmed’ alarm, the monitoring center may decide to send the police. Providing users have police response to their property.

Why Is Monitoring More Secure?

Unmonitored alarms do provide a level of security to users' property. If users are home and the alarm sounds users will know there is an intruder which allows them to act. The sound of an alarm or the sight of a professionally installed alarm may also work as deterrents to criminals.

Around the clock, monitoring means when users are working, out, or abroad on holiday, they will not have to rely on a neighbor hearing the alarm and taking action to keep their house safe. Users can have peace of mind that wherever they are their property’s security system is always been looked after. APE recommends that all alarms are monitored, whether a business or domestic property.

Monitored vs Unmonitored

A monitored alarm is where the monitoring center watched over the user's system and gets alerts if the alarm is activated.

They can then contact the appropriate person. An unmonitored system will simply sound is activated.

How to Get Alarmed Monitored?

To have an alarm monitored users will need to have a device called a Qualcomm installed on the alarm

To have an alarm monitored users will need to have a device called a Qualcomm installed on the alarm. This is what will communicate the alarm to the monitoring center.

If users are having their alarm monitored, users must also have a maintenance contract to make sure that their alarm is fully functional and has no faults. When the alarm is monitored the alarm must have a few false alarms as possible due to the police potentially being contacted.

Benefits Of Having A Monitored Alarm System:

  • Potential reduction in insurance premiums.
  • Increased security as someone is watching the status of the alarms 24/7 365.
  • No alarm activations are ignored.
  • Someone is always going to react to an alarm activation.
  • Reduced number of false alarms.
