Amthal is supporting Fire Door Safety Week 2022, the national safety awareness campaign first launched back in 2013 in response to a legacy of fire door neglect.

Taking place from Monday 31 October until Friday 4 November, the 2022 edition of Fire Door Safety Week is being run by the British Woodworking Federation with the support of a number of partners, among them the Home Office’s own National Fire Safetseveral the National Fire Chiefs Council and the London Fire Brigade.

Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022

Fire Door Safety Week 2022 campaign runs just a few months after the June announcement of new fire safety legislation and guidance outlining that cladding of the type used in Grenfell Tower is to be banned from use on any building in England.

The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 will come into effect on 23 January 2023 and ensure that flat entrance fire doors are subject to annual checks, while those located in the common parts of high-risk residential buildings must receive quarterly checks.

importance of Fire doors

Any door set should be fit for purpose in all characteristics, but notably, so for fire, security, and smoke control"

Says Phil Bryant, Amthal Manager of Strategic Accounts, “Fire door safety week aims to increase public understanding of the vital role that fire doors play in protecting life and property. Never has this been more crucial, following the devastating events of the Grenfell Tower fire in June 2017, and the raft of new legislative measures that have been brought in to ensure it cannot happen again."

As well as providing access around the property, fire doors are a critical part of the fire compartmentation requirement. We believe any door set should be fit for purpose in all declared characteristics, but notably, so those that are life critical such as fire, security, and smoke control."

Maintenance

With the public nervous to report a problem with a fire door, these need to be checked regularly to ensure the maintenance and any defaults identified are resolved as quickly as possible. It not only provides peace of mind to property and block managers that they are compliant but also to residents that their homes are fire safe.”

Amthal has a number of specialist installers, trained in fire door safety, that works with property and block managers, specification, and maintenance teams to ensure full compliance with the latest legislation.
