The 2021 edition of NFPA 11 Standard for Low-, Medium-, and High-Expansion Foam is now available. There are many changes from the 2016 edition.

Synthetic Fluorine-Free Foam (SFFF)

One is the inclusion of Synthetic Fluorine-Free Foam (SFFF), a new class of fire-fighting foam defined as 'Foam concentrate based on a mixture of hydrocarbon surface active agents that is not formulated to contain per- or poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)'.

An additional change is the inclusion of NFPA 16 The Standard for the Installation of Foam-Water Sprinkler and Foam-Water Spray Systems into NFPA 11 – see Chapter 6. NFPA 16 was withdrawn at the 2020 revision cycle. Additionally, NFPA 11 has gone from a 5-year to a 2-year revision cycle. As a result, the 2021 edition of NFPA 11 is open for public comments until February 22, 2022.
