VdS, Europe´s No.1 institute for safety, and UL, the US safety science pioneer, have signed a data acceptance agreement for a range of European certification standards.

For fire detection and alarm systems according to EN 54, both market pioneers can from now on accept each other’s testing data – ensuring the reduction of costs as well as time to market for their customers.

Data acceptance agreement

Dr. Robert Reinermann, CEO at VdS Loss Prevention, stated: "The VdS mission is to always ensure not only proven safe but also comprehensive and time-saving support for our customers – among other things by delivering all needed testing services from a single source. Signing this mutual data acceptance agreement is a great step forward for both VdS and UL, whose focus on safety and quality matches our own ideals.”

We are pleased to announce a mutual data agreement with VdS"

This agreement will help our clients access new opportunities and streamline the process of cross-border certification." Chris Hasbrook, Vice President and General Manager of UL´s Built Environment Group, said: "We are pleased to announce a mutual data agreement with VdS. We like what VdS represents and share similar values, and this relationship is something our customers support.”

Broader market access

It is a great move for both organizations and, more importantly, for our customers, who will now be able to access markets that they might not have considered previously."

From now on, VdS clients will get the added benefit of UL accepting VdS data for issuing its UL-EU / UL-AU Mark, as well as the UK CPR Certificate (for applying UKCA). VdS can accept UL testing to European standards. Furthermore, mutual VdS/UL clients will receive broader market access by applying the VdS and UL Marks to their products.
