U.S. Fire Administrator Kelvin Cochran will address the NVFC Board of Directors at their Fall Meeting
Fire Administrator Cochran will speak during general session

U.S. Fire Administrator Kelvin Cochran will address the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) Board of Directors on Friday, September 25 during the NVFC Fall Board Meeting in Coralville, IA. Cochran will be speaking during the General Session, which is open to all meeting attendees.

Cochran was confirmed by the Senate as U.S. Fire Administrator on August 7 and sworn in by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate on August 27. He previously served as Fire Chief of the Atlanta (GA) Fire Department.

His responsibilities as Administrator include overseeing the U.S. Fire Administration and the National Fire Academy, fire prevention and safety education programs, and professional development opportunities for emergency responders at all levels of government.

Also at the Fall Meeting, the NVFC will bestow its Lifetime Achievement Award on Fred G. Allinson. With over 39 years of service as a volunteer firefighter, Allinson has dedicated his life to the emergency services on a local, state, and national level. He is a past Chairman of the NVFC, past President of the Washington State Fire Fighters' Association, and winner of Fire Chief Magazine's Fire Chief of the Year Award for 1999.
