The Jackson Trail Volunteer Fire Department (JTVFD) has taken delivery of its first Toyne Pumper. The department’s new apparatus is a welcomed sight, as this pumper is replacing an older truck (Engine 91) within the fleet that has been in service since 1988. Taking over the title of Engine 91, the fully customized Toyne is built to meet the growing fire service needs of their community in Jackson County, Georgia.
Established in 1978, the Jackson Trail Volunteer Fire Department has been serving the community of Jefferson, Georgia –24/7– for more than 40 years. The department consists of 28 highly trained firefighters.
Rapid incident response
Their territory encompasses 25 square miles; covering this significant area requires the JTVFD to operate out of two stations and maintain a fleet of six apparatus. Entirely dedicated to advancing their capabilities through rigorous training and the latest equipment, adding a new Toyne Pumper is the department’s latest step towards reaching their goals.
Built on the Spartan Metro Star LFD platform, the pumper boasts the durability and power requirements for rapid incident response. Under the hood is a Cummins ISL9 engine, capable of producing 450 horsepower. Precisely applying that power is a rugged Allison 3000 EVS transmission. The body of Jackson Trail’s Toyne consists of durable bolted painted stainless steel.
Remote engine throttling
An Akron Hi Riser 3433 monitor was installed for more flexibility in fire suppression
To accommodate swift water delivery, Toyne equipped JTVFD’s new rig with a 1,500-gallon-per-minute Waterous CSUC 20 pump and a fire research ThrottleXcel pressure governor with remote engine throttling capabilities. Water storage comes in the form of a 750-gallon UPF tank. For precise monitoring of water levels, an ICI SL Plus tank gauge was fitted to the pumper.
Additional customizations were made to the department’s apparatus. An Akron Hi Riser 3433 monitor was installed for more flexibility in fire suppression. This Toyne Tailored Apparatus features telescoping fire tech FT-SL-30-FT-B lights, ensuring the scene will always be well lit.
