Naval structures are by far the most complex structures to be protected. This complexity derives both from the presence of very different environments, and from the different load conditions and weather-marine variables to which the units are subject.

In addition, the firefighting design of military ships is even more complicated. Military ships, unlike merchant ships or passenger ships, must ensure operation during all mission profiles including war setup.

Firefighting systems for military ships

Tema Sistemi is able to offer a whole range of firefighting systems for military ships designed according to IMO, MIL and UMM regulations.

The company has, in fact, designed firefighting systems for all military ships currently under construction in Italy, including:

  • Logistic support vessel
  • High-speed multipurpose units
  • Frigates of the Bergamini class
  • Multi-purpose high-altitude patrol boats
  • Multi-role amphibious ships

Integrated with water mist, foam, CO2 systems

Depending on the environment to be protected, Tema Sistemi provided firefighting systems integrated with water mist, foam, CO2, wetting agent, twin agent and FK-5-1-12 technologies.

To foresee the use of these ships in combact mode, the systems were built with specific materials and components such as shock absorber, reinforced structures, sectioning valves built according to UMM 05.1.09, redundancy of items and water mist nozzles in marine bronze or Aisi316 steel.

Furthermore, ‘real impact tests’ were carried out to test the resistance of the system in real dangerous situations.
