'Put a Freeze on Winter fires' is a joint campaign of USFA an NFPA

NFPA has partnered with the United States Fire Administration (USFA) to launch the "Put a Freeze on Winter Fires" campaign.

It's that time of year again when the weather is cold and more families are engaged in indoor activities to stay warm. A recent report from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) shows that home heating fires continue to be a leading cause of home fires and fatalities.

NFPA has partnered with the United States Fire Administration (USFA) to launch the "Put a Freeze on Winter Fires" campaign that includes a community outreach toolkit, ready to use newspaper materials, and video public service announcements (PSAs). These resources may be used by Fire Corps teams to implement a home heating safety awareness campaign in their community.

Additionally, the USFA is encouraging the dissemination of information regarding the following fire safety campaign(s) or topics:

  • Prepare. Practice. Prevent the Unthinkable, which encourages parents and caregivers to protect their babies and toddlers.
  • Smoking & Home Fires, which is targeted to smokers and people who live with smokers.
  • Install. Inspect. Protect, which encourages the installation and maintenance of smoke alarms and sprinklers.
  • Prevent Fires. Save Lives, which encourages fire safety for people age 50 and over.

The USFA's campaign materials for these topics include web banners; fact sheets; posters; print, radio, and TV PSAs; educational videos; PowerPoint presentations; ways to spread messages throughout the community; pre-written articles; talking points, and more. Fire Corps teams are encouraged to incorporate these resources into current or upcoming activities.
