Spartan Emergency Response, a business unit of Spartan Motors, Inc, advances its position as the global supplier of safety driven design with two significant orders for apparatus built on custom Spartan cabs and chassis that are expected be delivered to Latin America later this month. The Cuerpo de Bomberos de Puerto Rico and the Cuerpo de Bomberos de Santiago chose Spartan apparatus equipped with Spartan Advanced Protection System to best serve heavily populated communities while providing optimal firefighter safety in the process.

"We understand that one size doesn't fit all, and often times, a commercial chassis may not provide first responders with the flexibility they need to serve the unique conditions in which they operate," said Daryl Adams, Spartan Motors President and Chief Executive Officer. "We have the ability to engineer apparatus that combines first-to-market technologies with the safest cab and chassis in the industry, and this allows Spartan to best meet the demands of Latin American fire departments and the communities they serve. Our combined technology and safety acumen is the primary reason we continue to win repeat orders that expand our global customer base."

Spartan S-180 pumpers and Gladiator custom chassis

The new orders come at a time when responding to emergencies, including natural disasters, has never been more critical. When the Fire Department of Puerto Rico made the decision to add to their fleet, they chose to replace out-of-service apparatus with three Spartan S-180 pumpers, as well as a Ladder Tower TeleSqurt telescoping boom ladder that is built on a Spartan Gladiator custom chassis. Each unit was built to customer specification, with tight corners and narrow roadways in mind. Spartan's S-180 line of pumpers, also built on custom Spartan cabs and chassis, provide industry-leading strength, safety, and storage; and they are delivered to customers in half the time of industry competitors.

Delivery time was an important factor to Puerto Rico, as they rebuilt a weather-and age-worn fleet. With this order, Puerto Rico's Fire Department will now be able to better support fire and rescue operations in areas that were not previously accessible with its older apparatus.

Aerial ladders and Spartan’s Metrostar custom chassis

Chile's Cuerpo de Bomberos de Santiago added four 75' aerial ladder tenders built on Spartan's Metrostar custom chassis

Separately, Chile's Cuerpo de Bomberos de Santiago added four 75' aerial ladder tenders built on Spartan's Metrostar custom chassis. The complete apparatus, also built to spec to have tighter turning radius, better suspension, and be more adept at tackling nearly any terrain, are fully equipped with Spartan Advanced Protection System. These trucks will support missions that include responses to structure and brush fires, motor vehicle accidents, heavy rescues, hazardous materials calls, and more. Santiago's aerial fleet addition replaces ladder tender vehicles that previously had no aerial devices on board, as is common in Chilean fire departments. The soon-to-be-delivered Spartan aerials will now lead the charge as first responding units to all structure fires in Chile's largest city center.

"We appreciate both Puerto Rico's and Santiago's investment in Spartan apparatus," said Adams. "We are confident that these trucks will provide great safety improvements for the firefighters and residents of their respective regions for years to come."

High Air Intake Gladiator X15 fire truck cab and chassis

News of the pending Latin American deliveries come on the heels of Spartan's recent announcement of its new High Air Intake Gladiator X15 fire truck cab and chassis design that will be introduced at this week's Fire-Rescue International 2018 Conference.
