Siemens is pleased to announce that the new generation Siemens Aspirating Smoke Detection (ASD) technology has been highly commended at the recent CIR Risk Management Awards under the category of “Risk Management Product of the Year (Specialised)”. This prestigious event was held in November at the Millennium Hotel Mayfair London and the Awards were judged by an independent panel of experts looking for exceptional performance.

Siemens’ new range of Aspirating Smoke Detectors is designed to operate in extremely demanding situations, where immediate and accurate fire detection is vital to life safety and business continuity. Even before smoke is visible, the innovative dual wavelength technology detects minute smoke particles, determines false fire phenomena and provides an instant fire alert.

Unlike conventional smoke detection, ASDs actively draw smoke to the detector through bore holes within a piping system that runs throughout the protected area. This offers a significantly higher level of protection as standard systems can only respond if smoke can actually reach the detection element, which can be too late in critical or challenging environments.

Thanks to the patented, intelligent sampling chamber inside the detector, the technology accurately differentiates between dust, smoke and deceptive phenomena, removing any potential risk of a false alarm. If smoke is detected, alert signals are then processed within milliseconds. This early stage response is suitable for critical environments where there is high airflow, such as data centres, or there is a high risk of airborne debris, such as heavy industrial processing.

Where aesthetics are of particular importance, Siemens aspirating devices are ideal as the pipe network is concealed. Historical and prestigious locations such as theatres, museums, stately homes, hotels and libraries can take advantage of this facility. Furthermore this factor makes Siemens ASDs suitable for sites where conventional detectors can be easily tampered with, such as correctional facilities and prisons.
