Chubb Fire & Security designs fire alarm system for the RPC Group

Chubb Fire & Security has won a contract to install a fully addressable fire alarm system for one of the facilities within the RPC Group, one of Europe’s largest packaging businesses.

The existing system at RPC’s Blackburn site was obsolete, prompting the company’s Plant Engineer Bob Hamer to consult specialists within Chubb: “We have been working with Chubb for a number of years on the monitoring and maintenance of our current system and have been pleased with the service provided. It was an obvious choice to discuss with them our need to upgrade our systems.”

Chubb engineers designed a Type P2 fire alarm system requiring detectors to be installed in all high-risk areas such as plant rooms, storage facilities and other areas where there is a high risk of fire. Additional automatic fire detection is also being provided to the offices. Work started at the beginning of February and is scheduled to finish by the beginning of May.

Bob Hamer says that he has been thoroughly impressed with Chubb’s work to date: “Following consultations with our insurers and Chubb engineers, a solution has been designed that now covers the entire site” he says.

Chubb is part of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp (NYSE:UTX).
