The pair of Oshkosh Striker vehicles will support the airport’s new 14,000-foot (4.2 km) long runway

Oshkosh Airport Products Group, a division of Oshkosh Corporation, has placed twin Oshkosh® Striker® 8 x 8 aircraft rescue and fire fighting (ARFF) vehicles into service at Calgary International Airport (YYC) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The pair of Oshkosh Striker vehicles will support the airport’s new 14,000-foot (4.2 km) long runway set to open in June.

“We’re proud that the Oshkosh Striker 8 x 8 was chosen to fill an important role in the Airport’s well established emergency response plans,” said Jeff Resch, Oshkosh Airport Products Group vice president and general manager. “It’s especially gratifying to know that the Calgary Airport Authority sees Oshkosh’s ARFF vehicles as a great option at this busy and progressive airport.”

The Striker ARFF vehicles on duty at Calgary International each feature an 8 x 8 axle configuration with a 950 hp engine, and a twin disc, electronic 6-speed automatic transmission. The vehicles also sport Oshkosh TAK-4® all wheel independent suspension on all eight driving wheels and a rear steering system for excellent off-road capabilities and dramatically reduced tire wear. Each vehicle also features a central lubrication system and a winterization package.

The firefighting system includes an Oshkosh roof turret with dual flow rates rated at 625 / 1250 gpm (2366 / 4732 lpm), and an Oshkosh® low attack bumper turret also rated at 625 / 1250 gpm (2366 / 4732 lpm). The water tank capacity is 3,209-gallons (12,150l) and the foam tank carries 446 gallons (1690 l). The single stage fire pump features 1,950-gpm (7,381 lpm) output and pump-and-roll capability. There are pre-connected hoses on both sides of the truck, each with 200 feet (61 meters) of hose and a hand nozzle.

Calgary International Airport is the third busiest and fastest growing airport in Canada. YYC is an important economic engine for the city, region and province, generating over $6 billion per annum in economic activity. Visit www.yyc.com for more information.
