Lauren Backstrom's social media efforts will broaden the NFPA's impact on fire safety |
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has named Lauren Backstrom as social media manager.
Backstrom will coordinate the organisation's social media presence, including Twitter, LinkedIn, and the Facebook pages for both the NFPA and its mascot, Sparky the Fire Dog.
"Social media has drastically changed the way people communicate and the way organisations communicate with the audiences they serve," said Lorraine Carli, NFPA's vice president of communications. "NFPA has been using social media successfully for several years and is thrilled to welcome Lauren Backstrom on board in a newly created position. She will centralise our social media efforts, engage our audiences and expand our reach, which will ultimately broaden our impact on fire safety."
As an account manager at Gray & Rice Public Relations, Inc., and later an account executive at Racepoint Group, Backstrom developed strong public relations skills. She helped to drive media relations and garner success for clients, but is now excited to use her experience to further the NFPA's mission.
Backstrom completed a bachelor's degree in information design and corporate communication with a minor in marketing from Bentley University. There she acted as the school's liaison with St. Jude's Children's Research Centre as President of Awareness and Fundraising.
