VFIS will showcase their new trailer safety program" at FRI 2009
New program incorporates practical evaluation

VFIS developed its "Emergency Services Trailer Operations and Safety Program" to educate responders on safe trailer operations.

This hands-on course includes information on trailers; the tow vehicle; brake requirements; tow hitch, ball, and coupler assembly; inspecting the vehicle; loading the trailer; and driving with a trailer.

After classroom discussion, participants test their knowledge on a skills course. They practice straight line exercises, right and left side alley docking, serpentine approaches, and off-set alley techniques. In addition to the classroom and skills course, participants are required to complete an over-the-road evaluation.

The knowledge needed and the skills necessary to perform this specialized driving is essential to safe operations. As with any call, the goal is to have the equipment arrive at the scene in a safe manner. Help make sure this is the case for your department by ordering our new CD-ROM program (C10:296) or calling VFIS on (800) 233-1957, ext. 7961.

This item will be on display at Fire Rescue International (FRI) 2009 at the VFIS booth, #917. Show hours are Friday, August 28, 10:30 am - 5:00 pm, and Saturday, August 29, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm.
