The incident at Meadowcrift Mill in the Bamford area, which involved the roof void of the single storey industrial unit, was attended by four fire crews from Rochdale, Bury and Heywood fire stations.
What caused the September 23rd incident was not immediately established, but the fire came in the wake of another inferno at a Middleton industrial unit, also in Manchester.
Crews from Chadderton and Blackley fire stations rushed to the scene and found a fire involving a grinding machine and ducting within the single storey Vitafoam building on Soudan Street. The fire, which caused damage to the machine and ducting, is said to have started when the apparatus overheated.
Factory and warehouse managers are advised to conduct regular fire risk assessments, which are a legal requirement for commercial premises, to minimise the chances of such incidents occurring.
