London Fire Brigade's Fire Safety Week included work with children in schools across the capital |
London Fire Brigade has successfully staged its first ever Fire Safety Week which highlighted the work it is doing to get its fire safety messages across to Londoners.
Fire Safety Week was part of the Brigade's new Keep Your Community Safe & Sound fire safety campaign which is encouraging all Londoners to become fire safety champions by making sure that they, their families and neighbours are safe from fire. A key part of the campaign is to target fire safety messages at those Londoners most at risk.
The week kicked off on Saturday 12th September when ten fire station open days were held across the capital - attracting nearly 10,000 visitors. Actor Cliff Parisi, who plays Minty in EastEnders, is backing the campaign and he visited some of the stations with London Fire Commissioner Ron Dobson and London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority Vice Chairman Liaquat Ali to help staff pass on vital fire safety information.
The work London Fire Brigade is doing with schools across the capital, fire safety initiatives with people who have disabilities and mobility problems and projects promoting fire safety for Londoners with alcohol and drug dependencies all came under the spotlight during Fire Safety Week.
To coincide with Fire Safety Week and support the campaign the Brigade also made use of social networking sites for the first time, posting a fire safety film on YouTube and setting up a Facebook group regularly updated with fire safety messages
