London Fire Commissioner, Ron Dobson has received a CBE from Her Majesty the Queen in an honours ceremony at Buckingham Palace.
Ron was awarded the medal in the New Year Honours list for his distinguished contribution to the fire and rescue service.
Following the ceremony he said: “I’m incredibly proud to have served with London Fire Brigade for the last 31 years and receiving the CBE from the Queen is without doubt one of the highlights of my career. I’d like to dedicate it to my family, and to all London firefighters and Brigade staff, whose commitment and hard work make London Fire Brigade, what I consider to be the best fire and rescue service in the world.”
Ron has 31 years firefighting experience. He joined the Brigade in 1979 and became Commissioner in 2007 after working his way through the ranks.
In 1996 Ron was one of the first senior officers at the scene of the Canary Wharf bomb blast where he coordinated a search of the incident. As an Assistant Commissioner, Ron led on the threat of terrorism and during the 2005 London bombings was the Brigade’s Senior Operational Commander.
Ron was awarded the Queen's Fire Service Medal in 2005. He lives in Sidcup, Kent, is married and has three children.
