London Fire Brigade is dedicated to ensuring that fireworks are always stored, sold and used in a safe and responsible way, and they work with partner agencies across London in preparation for major events such as Guy Fawkes Night, Diwali, New Year's Eve and Chinese New Year.
The key to reducing numbers of injuries and tackling the anti-social use of fireworks is co-operation and good communication between all the agencies involved. On the run up to the fireworks season in 2009 they have been working as part of the London Community Safety Partnership (LCSP) to develop and share best practice on the issue.
Building on successful work in 2007 and 2008 the LCSP has updated it's website on fireworks for 2009. The site has been designed to be used by people working for local authorities, the police, trading standards, TfL, housing associations and NGOs as well for the LFB. The idea is to provide a single source of information for people planning activity across London and to help build effective relationships between agencies working in our communities.

It contains useful tools such as a downloadable best practice checklist, information about resources available from central government and contact details for individuals who have done successful work on firework related problems in the past.
As the year progresses the LFB will be joining forces with the GLA, Metropolitan Police and TfL to co-ordinate press work and firework safety messages. They want to encourage all Londoners to have fun but safe fireworks celebrations.
