| Rita Dexter has been appointed Deputy Commissioner of London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority |
Rita Dexter, formerly Director of Corporate Services, has been appointed Deputy Commissioner of London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority.
Rita joined the Fire Authority - which runs London Fire Brigade - in 2001, and her responsibilities have included legal and democratic services, communications, strategy and performance and information technology. Prior to working for the Brigade, Rita was Deputy Chief Executive at Barnet Council.
Brian Coleman AM, FRSA, Chairman of the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority, said: "This is an excellent appointment for the Fire Authority, and I'm delighted that the Deputy Commissioner role will now benefit from Rita's extensive experience of local government and the Brigade, and her commitment to modernising and improving the UK fire and rescue service."
London Fire Commissioner Ron Dobson said: "I've worked closely with Rita for some years now, so I'm well aware how dedicated she is to ensuring we provide a world class service for Londoners. I have no doubt that she will make a significant contribution to the safety of the capital in her new post."
Notes:
- Rita began her career in 1979, as a clerk at Birmingham City Council, before moving to the Department of the Environment, specialising in the powers and duties of local authorities.
- She replaces former Deputy Commissioner Roy Bishop OBE QFSM, who retired in October.
- LFEPA runs London Fire Brigade, which employs around 7000 staff, including around 6000 uniformed personnel based in 112 fire stations.
