(SCBA) to the Country of
El Salvador
by Laconia Fire Department

The Laconia Fire Department, in cooperation with the New Hampshire National Guard State Partnership Program, has donated 30 self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) to El Salvador.

The Laconia Fire Department, in cooperation with the New Hampshire National Guard State Partnership Program, has donated 30 self - contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) to the Country of El Salvador. This donation was facilitated by Deputy Chief Riley and his wife, who is a member of the NH Air National Guard.

The State of New Hampshire has been "partnered" with the Country of El Salvador. El Salvador is a small but populated country in Central America which is a staunch ally of the United States and a country with an emerging Democracy. Exchanges take place between New Hampshire and El Salvador through military as well as civilian efforts. Military supplies, medical supplies, university teaching programs, computers, and now, fire equipment are among the list of exchanges.

This donated equipment, including SCBA's and spare air cylinders, will go directly to the San Salvador Fire Department. San Salvador is the capital City of El Salvador and their fire department is lacking this protective breathing equipment. Lt. Colonel Valas of the NH National Guard informed us that those firefighters now enter burning buildings with a wet rag over their nose and mouth. We are confident that our donated equipment will be put to good use as it will enhance the health and safety of our brothers and sisters in San Salvador. Here at the Laconia Fire Department, we are proud to be part of this international effort.
