Frequentis is an international supplier of communication and information systems in safety-critical markets and the company is a global market pioneer in air traffic control.

Frequentis solutions are in operation in over 100 countries, and its customers include police, fire, and ambulance services, as well as organizations and public authorities in civil/military air traffic management, rail, and maritime shipping markets.

The safety expertise

In order to provide the safety expertise required for customer projects, Frequentis founded its own competence center for system safety management in 1995.

Gabriele Schedl is the center’s head, and has been the company’s leading lady on all safety management matters for many years. The specialist safety know-how built up within Frequentis has given the company a decisive competitive advantage, and allowed it to build out its own safety consulting efforts

Ms Schedl’s expertise is much in demand throughout the world, and not just by Frequentis clients: she’s also a welcome guest at congresses and interest groups. Besides, she was the driving force behind the establishment of a safety certification course, the result of a cooperation between Frequentis and Vienna’s University of Applied Sciences.

Special international recognition

Frequentis joined the ISSS an international non-profit organization

All these activities have now found special international recognition. In 2000, Frequentis joined the International System Safety Society (ISSS), an international non-profit organization which connects and supports safety experts all over the world.

The ISSS was founded in California in 1964 with an initial focus on military activities, but it has since grown to cover all areas of safety management. Its membership spans the globe and includes large businesses, educational institutions, and various prestigious organizations.

Formally acknowledged

In December 2011, her colleagues in the ISSS formally acknowledged Ms. Schedl’s expertise by electing her to the position of “Regional Vice-President (RVP)” for Europe for the next four years.

Additional RVPs were also elected for the Asia/Pacific and North/South America regions, with all under the ultimate leadership of the ISSS’s US president.

The task of the RVPs is to further increase awareness of the importance of system safety in their region, and to encourage and manage discussion of various issues in safety management. Another important focus is the further development of educational and training opportunities in system safety.

Frequentis expert

The election of a Frequentis expert to the position of “Regional Vice-President” is further evidence of the company’s know-how and expertise in this area, which this high-tech company also puts to good use in helping develop relevant international standards.
